Important Photos
Action/Sports
Photo Taken by Neil Leifer on February 25, 1964. I believe this to be one of the most important sports photos taken in history. Originally taken in black and white and colorized by sports illustrated. This photo isn't just a moment captured in time but it tells a story just by looking at it. The two fighters fill the screen with the dark background showing Muhammad taunting Sonny as he is unable to get up. |
Landscape
Photo taken by Franco Fontana in 1975. I believe this to be one of the most important landscape photos of all time. Though there are more out there that I think are prettier, I really like the approach that Franco Fontana took. By making it more abstract looking it just caught my eye and almost made it feel like a familiar setting. |
Current Event/News
Photo taken by Lars Hagberg on January 19, 2022. Of the current events going on I think this photo really captures the common belief about the certain event. In the picture I really enjoyed how it showed the trucks on either side and then the huge amount of supporters in this crowd with signs supporting them. Its a picture you can just look at and know whats going on. |
Political
Photo taken by Jeff Widener on June 5, 1989. As far as political photos go I think that this one is just iconic if not anything else. This photo of an unknown protester blocking a line of tanks after the governments violent crackdown on the Tiananmen protests. I think that this is a photo that you cant just just look at and move on. This photo pulls you in and really makes you want to know the backstory. |
Historical Event
Photo taken by Joe Rosenthal on February 23, 1945 This photo of six iconic marines raising the flag on Mount Suribachi after the battle of Iwo Jima is a very important photo. Taken during the final stages of the pacific war this photo became the symbol of America. It is one of the most recognizable picture in history with statues and copies of this picture all around america. |
Fashion
Photo taken by Irving Penn in 1948. Im probably not the right person to be deciding what fashion is best but I really liked this picture. I just like how the subject wasn't overwhelming at all and it was simple. I also liked how the woman was dressed and the lighting around her because it almost makes her seem mysterious. |
Wildlife
Photo taken by Marsel van Oosten in 2014. It's a monkey with a phone. But other than that I think the thing that makes this a good picture is how the subject is captured. The monkey is in perfect focus with the space around it being kind of dull and blurry to really bring the subject out. But still it really is just a monkey with a phone you don't need much more. |
Portrait
Photo taken by Arthur Sasse in 1951. This photo is the best portrait ever taken. I think its really great because its different and there are not any other picture of Albert Einstein like it. he was not known to do goofy faces and was usually pretty serious so to get a picture of him having a little fun with it was awesome. |
With this project I didn't have to tough of a time finding the pictures I wanted to use. I really just used iconic pictures that I recognized but it was still really cool to learn more of the backstory behind them. For example I didn't know that the picture of the marines raising the flag was staged before I did this project.
